What Does NGH Do?
The NGH program runs from September through April and pairs high school students with experienced undergraduate mentors from the University of Pittsburgh. Throughout the year, mentees receive guidance on college applications, healthcare career exploration, and discovering new healthcare-related opportunities. In addition to one-on-one mentorship, NGH hosts professional development workshops, hands-on activities, and field trips. NGH mentees in the program have the opportunity to compete for a scholarship at the end of the cycle. Over the summer, we also collaborate with the University of Pittsburgh’s Gene Team to host a summer series on academic planning and career readiness, and run a virtual summer camp to reach students beyond Pittsburgh.

Scholarship
Meriem participated in ASPIRE's EQT program, where she was awarded a $10,000 scholarship in recognition of her active engagement and a strong scholarship application. That financial support played a significant role in her undergraduate journey. Inspired by the impact of that experience, she wanted to ensure that NGH could offer similar support to its students. As a result, the NGH scholarship was created to recognize participants who demonstrate consistent engagement in the program and submit a compelling scholarship essay.
